Today the small bustling capital reaches out for room to expand, and has discovered ironically that new expansion is somewhat limited.
To the west is the sea, to the south is the new expatriate community of Porto Pieta, to the east there is room until it reaches a hill summit.
The logical growth area is to the north. The airport is located at the right side of the main highway all the way to the interior hills. That leaves only the left (beach-side) of the road that heads north 3.5 km's to Morro. In between is the perfect location for urban expansion. This entire area beginning with a forested location known as FUNCHAGO: a tranquil local blessed with an advantageous, prized location, with the island’s best beaches but a short walk away, near the air airport (however, not beneath the flight plan), the port, and the Salina Beach Resort.
